Celebrating Our Climate
A
n Essential Climate Education Framework

Level One (5-6 year olds)

Communicating Climate Processes - Prime symbols:

Breath – our greatest teacher; celebrating the human breath, especially the giving away (out) breath

Which inspires in  us the combined senses of:

Change - everything is always changing
And
Stewardship
- every act we perform affects all other things

Which in turn opens us to the potential of the following great symbols:

Thermodynamics - air transmits and retains thermal energy (feeling heaters from a distance); sunlight v shade (direct solar warming v wind warming ); warmed-up air rises (joss sticks etc)

Trace – describing quantities on a continuum from trace through tiny through moderate through large through immense

Gases - gases exist

Air – mainly gases, which have mass and move freely (celebrating wind)

Invisible –feeling, smelling, tasting, hearing what we cannot see

Water - celebrating clouds and rain; three common forms (ice, liquid, vapour)

Sun – celebrating our main source of warmth and light
