ENERGY
!?
(A
cartoon exploration -Chapter Five)
Preamble:
Energy is a paradox. No one knows what it is and yet it is incredibly
intimate. It enables every element of our being, from the elementary
particles of our atoms to the farthest reaches of our universe(s). It is
a wonderful and vital mystery. However we can learn from history that
peoples that adopted flawed notions of energy tended to suffer excess
misery and their civic structures collapsed.
The survival
of human kind provides good reason to explore the nature of energy. An
even greater reason is that the journey of exploration may well open us
to amazing and wonderful experiences of existence.
We face major challenges along the way, perhaps none as extraordinary as
those created by the ego that resides in each of us. This element of our
psyche plays a pivotal role in determining our perceptions and is
characterised by both an abhorrence of notions of mortality and an
incredible, ingenious capacity for self-deceit. It is well capable of
generating vast, sophisticated rationales of denial of
change/stewardship and can easily make us our own worst enemy. Smile.
Chapter Five explores this hilarious and tragic behaviour as manifest in
the current confusion of warming and warming up. This amounts to the
complete denial of our laws of thermodynamics and a profound rejection
of the thermal processes that sustain life.
Enjoy.

End Chapter Five: The
Ego and Global Warming
Chapter Six
- The Ego and Greenhouse Earth explores the advent of the Greenhouse religion with the
Industrial Revolution and its widespread influence in
contemporary Western culture.
Below:
A quick search of "Stop Global Warming"
generates hundreds of Internet pictures associating global
warming with malevolence - below are a sample from the first
pages of results. They provide graphic evidence of the capacity
of the ego to deny the flows and balances that sustain life.
This use of the
"warming" symbol is a widespread phenomenon and
is part of a wider syndrome. The common factor in the use of
many of our prime symbols is the denial of our roles amidst the
universal change.
A search under
"global warming is real" produces many similar
results. The joke is that life would not exist on planet Earth
if global warming were not real. If the continual warming
process ceased then existence would become very unreal. Smile.
This search of the
website of the Royal Society of New Zealand generates pages of
links to articles demanding that we "stop global
warming". This death wish can be found on the websites of a
wide range of Environmental Education agencies and Carbon
Trading businesses.
